Wine & Song - Abby Litman; Furious Seasons

Wednesday, September 27 @ 7:00PMWed, Sep 27 @ 7:00PM

Lost Parrot, 1929 Huntington Dr, South Pasadena, CA

At Lost Parrot Cafe, 1929 Huntington Dr. in South Pasadena. 6pm doors, 7pm music. Food and full bar available at the venue. $15 corkage.

Maryland-born and Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Abby Litman is a voice of a new generation of songwriters who reckon with uncertain truths in a world that always seems ready to end at a moment’s notice. Her songs are timeless truths of the American experience, as seen from an L.A. vantage point. She’s a modern version of the marvelously idiosyncratic and bracingly honest Joni Mitchell with echoes of Carole King. The Furious Seasons are an acoustic trio with stories to tell. Acclaimed songwriter, singer and guitarist David Steinhart fashions songs that lyrically live on the hopeful side of melancholy. His brother Jeff Steinhart plays bass and Paul Nelson fills out the trio on guitar and harmony vocals. Inside their songs are tales of desperate situations, chronicles of life in 21st century Los Angeles, and stories of quietly heroic individuals, often told with a nod towards the inexorable passage of time.

Wine & Song - Jeff Berkley and Cynthia Carle w/ Chauncey Bowers

Wednesday, September 20 @ 7:00PMWed, Sep 20 @ 7:00PM

Lost Parrot, 1929 Huntington Dr, South Pasadena, CA

At Lost Parrot Cafe, 1929 Huntington Dr. in South Pasadena. 6pm doors, 7pm music. Food and full bar available at the venue. $15 corkage.

Jeff Berkley is a San Diego legend. His musical contributions to Berkley Hart, The Cry, The Redwoods, and many other musicians he has produced are evidence of that. He was a New Folk award-winner at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival. His humor will put you at ease while his great songs, guitar mastery, and passion will have you riveted. Cynthia Carle has been a frequent musical contributor to Comedy Central Stage’s Sit N Spin and I Love a Good Story. She and collaborator Mark Nutter received rave reviews for their musical Christmas Smackdown. Cynthia appeared in the Stuart Gordon-Mark Nutter hit, Re-Animator the Musical at the Steve Allen Theater in Los Angeles, where it received five Ovation Award nominations. Her outrageously funny songs never disappoint. We’ll also take a trip into the metaphysically corkscrewed universe of the one and only Chauncey Bowers.

Phoenix-based Eric Ramsey is an award-winning blues and slide guitarist and a perennial favorite on the festival circuit. He writes from experience about the human condition — stark, at times sensitive, at times humorous, always thought-provoking. His arrangements and delivery encompass a spectrum of styles, from delicate fingerpicking to raucous, bluesy bottleneck slide.

Summer Woods is a striking musical up-and-comer with a refreshingly straightforward and classic approach to the singer-songwriter genre, colored with her irresistibly quirky way of telling stories and sharing messages of relentless optimism. Hailing from the small suburb of Chino Hills, she is a recent graduate of Los Angeles College of Music. She has a wonderful new video worth checking out of a song called… “Pasadena.”

Wine & Song - Alice Wallace; Brothers Landau

Wednesday, June 14 @ 7:00PMWed, Jun 14 @ 7:00PM

Urquhart home (outdoors, following WISPPA event), 1210 Chelten Way, South Pasadena, CA

This event will be outdoors following the WISPPA (Women in South Pasadena Political Advocacy) cocktail party at the Urquhart home, 1210 Chelten Way in South Pasadena. The WISPPA event begins at 5:30pm with Wine & Song firing up immediately afterward at 7:00. No ticket needed, just a suggested $20 donation in the bucket.

Alice Wallace plays folk, country and blues with a southern California touch. She’s a Nashville-based artist now and her most recent album "Into the Blue” on Rebelle Road Records — a label co-founded by our friend KP Hawthorn and dedicated to strengthening the California Country music community and expanding visibility for female artists in the Americana/roots genre — landed on Americana Highway’s Best Albums of 2019 list.

Brothers Landau are a cello-guitar duo known for meticulously arranged, clever, indie pop with sibling harmonies. Brothers David and Daniel Landau blend a wide range of influences to create cathartic music that feels like being with good friends after a lousy week. Over their decade of playing together the brothers have refined their sound and connected with people of all ages and backgrounds. They draw from their experiences to examine the beauty, pain, and uncertainty of working to find meaning and live a good life in the modern age.

We'll also hear from special guest Brett Perkins, plus Chauncey Bowers (who may attempt the high-wire act of yodeling with Alice.)
