Known for her literary songwriting style and deep honey voice, Berkeley author turned songwriter Zoe FitzGerald Carter released her first album, Waiting for the Earthquake, in 2018 and Waterlines, in 2021. Waterlines featured some of the Bay Area’s finest musicians. Her upcoming album, Before the Machine, drops in May. The album features 13 original songs, a rich assortment of talent, and explores how modern technology, in particular smart phones, have changed our experience and perception of time. Hailing from Portland, Oregon, singer-songwriter Chris Baron is a “modern folk singer that has his guitar loaded and his van fueled up.” His unique, stylized, and catchy Americana music is informed and inspired by an interesting west coast life. He came to my attention from good friend Phil Ward who will also share a few songs with us. Phil’s humor and twisted tunes, touching on everything from romance to robot bears to discount pain therapy, will leave you laughing uncontrollably, while nodding in recognition.
